Apricot harvest

The superfruit in the Wachau region

Alongside grapes, apricots are THE signature fruit of the Wachau region. Here – between the Pannonian Basin, the Waldviertel and the Danube – there is a microclimate that is ideal for apricots. Sunny, warm days, cool nights and special soils provide a unique interplay of flavours. Sweet and with a delicate fruit acidity, apricots can be used in many different ways in the kitchen.

Wachau apricot farmers

With the EU logo “Protected Designation of Origin” and the trademark “Original Wachauer Marille”, 220 Wachau apricot farmers guarantee consumers the authenticity of origin and the unique aroma and taste quality of Wachau apricots PDO.

The fully ripe fruits are harvested by hand using the Wachau apricot basket, the traditional picking basket for apricots.

Highest quality apricots

The quality of Wachau apricots thrives on the passion of their producers. Businesses such as Marillenhof Aufreiter, the Bailoni and Hellerschmid apricot distilleries, and Manufaktur Wieser Wachau refine the golden fruit with the utmost care. They stand for traditional craftsmanship and the production of the finest products – from exquisite brandies to delicious jams.
