The Danube Cycle Path runs from the source of the Danube near Donaueschingen in Germany, all the way to the Black Sea and, therefore, forms part of the Eurovelo 6, which begins on the Atlantic coast. 1,200 kilometres. There are 17 stages in total, 10 of which are in Austria.
If you add up the stages – each on the north and south banks of the Danube – this results in 380 km in Austria, 260 km of which are located in Lower Austria. But quit it with the numbers already!
These are some incredibly beautiful and varied kilometres to cover. So that you don’t miss a thing, you should change banks every now and again. There are several ferries that can be used to do so, especially in the Wachau. A ferry trip like this is an experience in itself! Or you can cover an entire stage by boat. Also always a good idea. This is because, from the river, the world looks completely different again, and your calves get to enjoy a well-earned break.
