The most beautiful diversions from the Danube Cycle Path in Lower Austria

The Danube Cycle Path is one of the most popular river cycle paths in Europe. And quite rightly so. Here, you can enjoy cycling for ages – without any significant gradients to worry about. Nature, culture and refreshment stops can practically be found throughout the entire stretch. But you can also go the extra mile (or rather drive the extra kilometre) – without wanting to lie, it’s a few more than that – and explore the surrounding countryside extensively, especially in Lower Austria.

There is a large number of cycle paths that branch off from the Danube Cycle Path: 11 river valley cycle paths along the Erlauf, Ybbs, Kamp, March, Traisen and other well-known rivers. Plus the EuroVelo13 (Iron Curtain Trail) and the EuroVelo 9 (Baltic-Adriatic route), as well as the 13 Danube loops. And every extra tour is well worth it!

The regions along the Danube Cycle Path

Despite the route’s length, you should plan a little more time for the Danube Cycle Path. There are many good reasons for this: every few kilometres, a new region begins, offering an incredible amount to see and discover. It would be a shame to simply cycle through here instead of sampling the regional specialities and taking advantage of the many worthwhile detours that are on offer.
