Ferry romance the "modern way"

The cable along which the roller ferry crosses the Danube between Spitz and Arnsdorf is 485 meters long. In a brisk 5 to 7 minutes. And very modern, because only the current of the Danube serves as a sustainable source of energy.

The surprising art accents that we encounter here on and off the water are also modern. For example, the "Camera obscura" in the ferry cabin, installed by Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson: the river landscape of the Wachau passes by on two screens. Along the promenade in Spitz, newly developed LED lighting allows visitors to experience the atmosphere on the banks of the river with particular intensity: The light is characterized by a special subtlety and is adapted to the time of day and season. The "Spitzer Spitz" as part of the "Minerva sculpture" is also remarkable: The 4.5 meter high bronze cone has become a true "landmark" on the banks of the Danube!

Would you have thought it?

Those who prefer to stick to tradition will go into raptures at the annual midsummer celebrations at the ferry landing stage in Arnsdorf: A true spectacle of torches and fireworks reflected in the evening Danube!
