Hiking tour Starting from Maria Taferl, Town Entrance
The blue village loop starts off on a slight incline through a small section of forest. In the middle section, the route runs slightly uphill on asphalt. At the end of the loop there is a very nice gravel path with a viewpoint of the Danube and Gösser valleys.

Please note the following tips and guidelines:
· Stay on the marked trails.
· Wear hiking boots.
· Use hiking poles.
· Rain gear is always advisable.
· Bring a hiking map with you.
· Carry enough drinking water with you.
· Please do not leave your trash behind on the trail.
· Respect the sensitive habitats of flora and fauna.
You undertake the suggested hikes at your own risk and on your own responsibility.
We recommend hiking boots, a backpack, a hiking map and/or a mobile route planner, weatherproof clothing (e.g., rain gear), a hat, sunscreen, a first-aid kit, possibly a flashlight, and enough food and drink to keep your energy up (water, snacks).
The blue village loop starts off with a gentle descent through a small wooded area. In the middle section, the route climbs slightly along a paved road. Toward the end of the loop, there is a very scenic gravel path with a viewpoint overlooking the Danube and Gösser valleys.
Parking is available in the town center of Maria Taferl or near the basilica.
Marbach is accessible via the A1 Westautobahn; take the Pöchlarn exit. At the exit, take the first exit at the roundabout, then turn left after about 1 km toward the Danube Bridge. Cross the bridge, then keep left on Wachauerstraße (B3) until you reach Marbach. Once in town, turn right toward Maria Taferl.
Coming from Krems or Grein, take Wachauerstraße (B3) to Marbach. Once in town, turn right toward Maria Taferl.
Take the ÖBB train to the Pöchlarn station— check the schedule. From the station, take the bus to Maria Taferl— www.vor.at.

Maria Taferl is Lower Austria’s most important and Austria’s second-largest pilgrimage site. It is situated at a climatically favorable elevation, in a wooded area high above the Danube Valley, far from noise and traffic. The Baroque basilica is well worth seeing. Among others, Baroque architects Jakob Prandtauer and the famous “Kremser Schmidt” have left their mark on the building. It offers a unique panoramic view of the Alpine foothills and the 320-km-long Alpine range (from the Schneeberg to the Salzburg Mountains).
