Hiking tour Starting from Weiten, Gewerbebaum
From Gerwerbebaum, we first walk approx. six km through the market town of Weiten with its fortified church to St. Stephen. From there, our path leads past the pillory square with the Roland column, which once served as a place of jurisdiction. We get to know around 40 trees on the themed trail. We reach the tranquil hamlet of Eibetsberg via a steeper path that leads through a natural pine-hornbeam forest. Above it, the path leads past a lime kiln. Other highlights include two newly renovated wayside shrines (before Filsendorf and in Eibetsberg) and an imposing beech tree, which has been designated a natural monument for its 1000 years of age. After Eibetsberg, we hike back to Weiten. The hiking trail is uniformly signposted with yellow signs throughout.

At Gewerbebaum, we cross the little bridge and then go straight ahead twice until we reach Hans Lagler-Platzl. At Café Gasthof Fam. Fischl, we turn right toward the Gothic parish church of St. Stephanus (340 m) and pass the municipal office. We now walk straight ahead through the church’s archway and follow a path that runs parallel to the stream, crossing a small pedestrian bridge and a short alley to reach Prangerplatz (333 m) and the Dr. Jörg Mauthe Millennium Sundial. At the Roland Column, we cross the B216 and, between two houses, initially follow a gentle meadow path that soon turns into a steep, winding forest trail through a magnificent, unspoiled pine and hornbeam forest. Almost at the top, the trail branches off to the right (here it diverges from the Dreikirchen Trail) and soon passes a yellow, newly renovated wayside shrine. Immediately afterward, we turn left directly into the village of Eibetsberg, and at the next intersection, we follow the paved road to the left uphill (next to a horse paddock) all the way to the edge of the forest. Here, the trail rejoins the 3-Kirchen-Weg and the Jauerling Runde. A bench awaits us, offering a magnificent view of the beautiful hilly landscape of the Vorderes Waldviertel. We now follow the path to the right and, after about 20 meters, turn left toward the historic lime kiln, which we reach via a lovely meadow path. There, we turn sharply to the right and soon return to the small paved road. Here, we turn left again and follow the paved road. At the next intersection, we go straight ahead. Shortly after that, we turn right onto a forest road—there’s a woodshed on the left. If we look back briefly here, we catch a glimpse of the pilgrimage church in Heiligenblut. We now hike on flat to slightly downhill terrain straight ahead through a pine-beech forest until the path curves to the left at an “aspen/trembling poplar” and, immediately afterward, curves to the right at the “Christbaum Aniwenter,” merging back onto an asphalt road. Soon after, we follow a dirt path lined with several benches. After a right turn, the dirt path merges back into a small paved road, and we head straight toward a newly renovated wayside shrine situated between two sycamore maples, located on the road to Filsendorf. Here, we turn right onto the road, follow it for about 150 meters, and then turn right onto a beautiful meadow and forest path, with the Eibetsberger Bach flowing along on our left. At the next Y-intersection, we keep to the left and soon reach the next highlight: a 1,000-year-old (according to the sign at the Gewerbebaum in Weiten) copper beech, a magnificent natural monument. We walk past it to the end of the trail and, if we follow the road to the right, we’ll reach Eibetsberg from “below.” Right at the entrance to the village, just before the yellow wayside shrine, we turn left onto a cart path that soon leads through a forest. Before we reach the Christmas tree plantations, our path turns right—toward “Weiten Mitte.” We walk slightly downhill toward the edge of the forest and follow a gently descending, winding path through the woods, exiting the forest at the B216, where we walk a short distance to the right along the “Gewerbebaum.”

Take the A1 to Melk, then the B3 to Weitenegg; there, turn right onto the B216 toward Leiben/Pöggstall and continue to Weiten.
