The variety of nature and culture in the Wachau region is what makes it so magical. A trip on the Wachau Railway reveals this diversity in all its breadth and depth.
A little off the beaten track, between ancient walls, vineyards and flowering embankments, the Wachau has preserved its essence. This is the "territory" of the Wachau Railway. It has been running here for a good hundred years - and today connects Krems with Emmersdorf opposite Melk. The artful route in an elevated position offers great views of the World Heritage landscape.
The ride on the Wachau Railway from Krems to Emmersdorf is a particularly charming journey through the Wachau UNESCO World Heritage Site: The train leisurely follows the Danube, passing vineyards, apricot orchards, and historic towns such as Dürnstein, Weißenkirchen, and Spitz before arriving in the small village of Emmersdorf. Large panoramic windows offer ever-changing views of castles, abbeys, and the unique cultural landscape. The Wachaubahn combines relaxed travel with nature and cultural experiences—all without having to search for parking.

From Vienna: Take the A1 Westautobahn toward Linz, exit at St. Pölten Ost or St. Pölten Süd, then continue on the S33 (Krems Expressway) toward Krems. The S33 ends right in Krems on the Danube.
From Linz / the west: Take the A1 Westautobahn toward Vienna, exit at Melk, then continue on the B3 (Danube Federal Highway) or the S33 toward Krems
From the north (Waldviertel): Take the B37 (e.g., from Zwettl or Gföhl) directly to Krems
Take the train to Krems an der Donau and transfer to the Wachaubahn at the station there.
