Hiking tour Starting from Mautern, stormwater retention basin at the end of Grillparzerstraße
The Fuchsleitengraben with the "Nature and Stone" theme trail is geologically interesting. From the loess terraces of the Mautern vineyard landscape, you walk along numerous rock exhibits to the Hollenburg conglomerate rock. The connection between "loess and wine" can be clearly seen in the natural monument Hohlweg Zellergraben.

From the loess terraces of the Mautern vineyard landscape, you walk along numerous rock exhibits to the Hollenburg conglomerate rock. The connection between "loess and wine" can be clearly seen in the natural monument Hohlweg Zellergraben.
We start right at the Fuchsleitengraben and follow the well-marked “Nature and Stone” themed trail. At the end of the trail, we turn right, walk a short distance along a dirt road, and at the next fork, keep left onto the Hochfeldweg. This path leads across a scenic plateau offering magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.
At the end of the Hochfeldweg, we cross the state highway and continue hiking along the Zellergrabenweg to the Zellerkreuz. There, we follow the road for a short distance, then turn right and enter the Zellergraben—which is well marked. The Zellergraben is a particularly idyllic landscape, characterized by sunken paths, vineyards, and gentle forested slopes, and offers a striking glimpse into the traditional cultural landscape around Mautern.
We follow the ravine out of the valley and turn right onto the Gottschelle farm road. At the end of the farm road, we reach the Kellergraben, a characteristic wine cellar lane with historic wine press houses and wine cellars that bear witness to the region’s long tradition of winemaking. In a peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere, the close connection between the landscape, wine, and rural culture can be experienced particularly well here.
We follow the Kellergraben to the fork where we turn left back onto the Zellergraben. Taking the familiar path, we reach the state highway again and finally return to our starting point through the Baumgarten district.
In Mautern, at the retention pond at the end of Grillparzerstraße.
