Embraced by the Danube and surrounded by wine terraces and apricot gardens, the market town of Rossatz-Arnsdorf is located in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world - the UNESCO World Hertige site Wachau. Rossatz is the largest apricot community in Austria and the Wachau apricot growing region. During the apricot blossom in spring, Rossatz is transformed into a single blooming garden. The Romans settled in Rossatz-Arnsdorf and brought viticulture to the Danube. Unique ruins of Roman watchtowers and walls of the former Limes border wall are still preserved. Some of the stone terraces around Rossatz date back to the 12th century and the market has been able to preserve its medieval townscape - the historic winegrowing and harvesting farms of the monasteries bear witness to the tradition of winegrowing. The Rossatz wine taverns and farm-to-table establishments will fulfill your individual wine wishes and spoil you with culinary delights.
One option is the starting point Rossatzbach. Just before the town sign right next to the federal road B33, there is a parking lot on the right and from here directly into the town. After about 200 meters is the first marking to the panorama trail – this is right next to the Rehrl-Fischer winery and wine tavern on the left side of the road (heading towards Rossatz). Follow the marking through the vineyards. About 2 km after starting in Rossatzbach, you come to the sculpture Emerald Lizard; here keep left of the Emerald Lizard, parallel to the village Rossatz. About 2 km after the Emerald Lizard, follow the path down to Rührsdorf. A short stretch on the federal road back towards Rossatzbach and after about 200 m, turn left towards the Apricot Mile. Then follow the further path marking Apricot Mile – the panorama trail is no longer signed. Directly in Rührsdorf, about half of the tour with about 4 km of walking is completed. A good opportunity to take a break. Then continue the Apricot Mile on an asphalt path alongside the orchards. The castle ruins of Dürnstein can be seen in the distance. In Rossatzbach, a short detour to the left to the Danube (towards the ferry) invites you to enjoy the view directly opposite Dürnstein, with its blue tower as a symbol of the Wachau, and to admire the wonderful panorama before returning to the starting point.
Also possible variant:
Rossatzbach B33 - high trail - wayside shrine - peace cross - St. Lorenz - return: either through Rührsdorf and the Danube meadows or along the B33.
