This discovery tour takes sporty cyclists on 39 hilly kilometers along striking loess formations and through hollow paths cut deep into the loess near Oberstockstall and Ruppersthal to the memorial to the Wagram's most famous son: Ignaz Joseph Pleyel, who left the romantic wine village to make a name for himself as a composer and piano maker in Paris around 1800. From Kirchberg, the route heads north to Oberstockstall. A hollow path, which is typical of the loess soil found in this region, leads out of Oberstockstall. The route leads over the "Winkelberg" to the village of Ruppersthal. The museum of the composer Ignaz Joseph Pleyel invites you to take a break. Those who wish can take advantage of this opportunity and walk a few meters into a spectacular hollow path with high loess walls. The trail leads uphill and downhill towards Baumgarten. There are several places with great views along this section that invite you to linger. In the village of Baumgarten am Wagram, the route descends through vineyards and continues on a side road to Großweikersdorf. Here we follow a beautiful gravel path in complete tranquillity along the course of the Schmida. At Tiefenthal we switch back to asphalt and continue on flat and quiet side roads to Stetteldorf.
The route loops through Stetteldorf, past Stetteldorf Castle with its historic courtyard garden, which overlooks the Danube plain right on the edge of the terrain. The path leads idyllically along the Schmidamühlbach stream in a westerly direction towards Kirchberg. In Absberg, we follow a long and beautiful wine cellar lane in the Wagram region, where you can find one or two quiet spots for a break. Just a few pedal strokes later we reach Königsbrunn. The path changes here to the upper part of the Wagramkante, through the wine cellar lane and past the "Naschgarten". With a view of the Danube plain, we cycle leisurely back to Kirchberg, along the Alchemistenpark and back to the starting point at the Gebietsvinothek. This tour is also ideal for guests arriving by bike from Tulln and joining the tour in Stetteldorf.
