Jakobsweg Weinviertel: Etappe 4: Großrußbach - Stockerau

The fourth day’s stage of the Weinviertel Way of St. James begins in Großrußbach. The trail takes you to Weinsteig, where, just before you enter the town, a beautiful rest area with a statue of St. James invites you to linger. From there, you’ll continue your pilgrimage to Karnabrunn, then head toward Niederhollabrunn, where, at the edge of the forest, you’ll turn toward Michelberg. You’ll continue through the Rohrwald. The shade provided by the Rohrwald’s trees is a true respite, especially on hot days; a marshy clearing may require waterproof footwear, depending on the season and current weather conditions. After the Rohrwald comes the Michelberg. Reenergized, you’ll continue on over the Waschberg—which lies in the heart of the “Weinviertler Klippenzone” Natura 2000 protected area—toward Leitzersdorf. Here, the flora and fauna are impressive; rare orchid species line the path, and the diverse array of wildlife fascinates pilgrims. Once you arrive in Leitzersdorf, you’ll reach the St. James Church in Leitzersdorf—the second St. James Church on the Weinviertel Way of St. James after Falkenstein. From there, you’ll continue your pilgrimage to Stockerau, your destination for the fourth day.
