Jakobsweg Römerland Carnuntum: Etappe 2 Hainburg-Petronell-Carnuntum

From the Hainburg boat landing, a shaded, paved path leads to Bad Deutsch-Altenburg. Follow the road until you reach a fork. Here, there are two route options. Another option would be to turn left at the fork and walk up the hill to St. Mary’s Church. However, it is usually closed and can only be viewed from the outside. With the “Ortsspaziergänge Carnuntum-Marchfeld” app, you can conveniently listen to all the information about St. Mary’s Church and also admire interior photos of the church and the charnel house. The second option is to turn right at the fork toward Bad Deutsch-Altenburg. At the roundabout, turn left, and you’ll already be able to see the Museum Carnuntinum. This museum, which is over 100 years old, serves as the treasure house of the Roman city of Carnuntum. Past the spa center, there’s a bus stop; walk right in front of it along the stream. At the end of this short path, turn right and walk past the Elisabeth Chapel. Now follow the signs toward Petronell-Carnuntum and, at the edge of town, continue along the dirt roads toward Petronell-Carnuntum. Once you arrive in Petronell-Carnuntum, follow the signs to the right at the Eigenheim housing development toward the main street. Continue straight ahead to reach the Roman city of Carnuntum, where—in a project unique worldwide—a Roman city quarter has been reconstructed at its original site. Alternatively, you can take the route that passes by the parish church dedicated to St. Petronilla.
