Description
One of the most popular vacation and excursion destinations on the right bank of the Danube. The most famous sight is the ruins of Aggstein Castle, a proverbial robber baron's castle of the Kuenringer dynasty, perched on a narrow rock 300 meters above the Danube. Schönbühel Castle (privately owned), Schönbühel Monastery, the Aggsbach-Dorf Charterhouse with the Carthusian Church, the hammer mill and the "Steinstadel" mineral center in Aggsbach-Dorf and the Wolfstein ruins are also of cultural and historical importance. Leisure activities range from wonderful hiking trails, cycling on the Danube cycle path and tennis to fishing in the Danube, a campsite and curling in winter. Dense forests, wide meadows, fruit orchards and the particularly mild climate guarantee peace and relaxation.
