Mautern lies on the right bank of the Danube at the entrance to the Wachau, opposite Krems.

Mautern is located on the right bank of the Danube at the entrance to the Wachau region, across from Krems. This pretty little town is also considered one of the oldest Roman settlements. Evidence of this comes from finds at the former “Favianis” legionary camp (1st century A.D.), which can now be admired at the Roman Museum. The “Favianis Mutaren” cultural trail in Mautern winds through the old town and offers insight into the town’s Roman and medieval history. Worth seeing are the Roman Tower, the Horseshoe Tower, the Roman Road, and the Baroque-style parish church with Stations of the Cross paintings by M.J. Schmidt. Inviting bike and hiking trails lead through vineyards or along the Danube.

Freely accessible electric vehicle charging stations are located right next to City Hall or in the large parking lot in front of the Römerhalle.
