The town of Grein is situated in a small bay at the entrance to the Strudengau, a 25-kilometer-long narrow valley of the Danube.
The Danube Festival Weeks in the Strudengau and the Grein Summer Festival are part of the historic town’s extensive cultural program. The Grein City Theater is considered the oldest secular theater in Austria that has been preserved in its original form. A guided tour of Greinburg Castle with its “Stone Theater” should not be missed.
