Description

The Greifenstein Danube power plant, the youngest in Lower Austria, was completed in 1985 and has established itself as a model power plant thanks to its accompanying ecological measures.
With nine horizontal Kaplan bulb turbines, it generates an average annual output of around 1.7 billion kilowatt hours, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 500,000 households.

The Greifenstein fish migration aid, which was opened in 2018, is a near-natural bypass stream that provides accessibility and a habitat for fish and other aquatic life.

A tour of the power plant is a fascinating experience, but is only available for groups of up to 25 people.
Information and written registration: at least 48 hours before the desired date at stromhaus@verbund.com

The Greifenstein power plant is an impressive example of the combination of technology and ecology and a must-see for anyone interested in renewable energies.
