Schöne Erde Estate – Winemaking with Responsibility and Passion
In the heart of the Wachau region, in Rossatz, the Schöne Erde Estate combines traditional winemaking craftsmanship with a modern, sustainable vision for the future. As a biodynamic family-run estate, the estate focuses on the responsible management of the soil, plants, and nature. This approach yields wines that reflect their origins while also creating space for new ideas and extraordinary taste experiences.
The focus is on classic grape varieties such as Grüne Veltliner and Traminer, which express the terroir of their origin in a distinctive way. These are complemented by innovative, fungus-resistant grape varieties, known as PIWI varieties. These include, among others, Donauriesling, Souvignier Gris, Cabernet Cortis, and Cabernet Jura. In this way, the estate combines time-honored winemaking traditions with new approaches to viticulture.
More Than Just Wine
The estate also harbors a special passion for the Wachau apricot. Around 160 standard apricot trees are tended with great care by hand. The fruit is processed into high-quality products such as organic apricot nectar, apricot chutney, and apricot brandy. The product range is complemented by vineyard fruit brandy, organic vineyard honey, and organic grape juice.
In the tasting room—the estate’s former wine cellar—visitors can sample and purchase the wines and regional organic products. This makes the estate a place where wine, regional food, nature, and personal encounters come together.
The Schöne Erde estate is guided by the belief that good wine begins where the land is treated with care. Tradition and innovation are not seen as opposites, but as two sides of modern viticulture.
