Pöchlarn

Welcome to the town of the Nibelungs: The enchanting municipality of Pöchlarn in the district of Melk is the early medieval Bechelaren of the Song of the Nibelungs. In addition to Pöchlarn, the municipality also includes the villages of Wörth, Röhrapoint, Rampersdorf and Ornding. The historic landscape offers visitors beautiful hiking and cycling trails as well as interesting excursion destinations. Pöchlarn: an old town full of life

Everywhere in Pöchlarn - which is known for its picturesque old town - historic buildings invite you to look and marvel: The parish church Maria Himmelfahrt from the 14th/15th century was baroqueized in the second half of the 19th century. The Nibelung monument shows the coats of arms of the Nibelung towns. The Welser Tower from 1484 has housed the town museum since 1931. Also worth seeing are the Renaissance Pöchlarn Castle, the town hall and the old town hall cellar, which is now used as an event location.

In the footsteps of Oskar Kokoschka

A magnificent museum is dedicated to Pöchlarn's famous local son Oskar Kokoschka: the Oskar Kokoschka Documentation in the birthplace of the world-famous artist - home to extensive documentation with works by Kokoschka himself. There are also temporary exhibitions of works by his most important students.

Leisure time in Pöchlarn

Whether fishing opportunities or sports boat harbor, circular hiking trails or tennis courts: Pöchlarn offers a wide range of leisure activities. Among the many great events, the annual midsummer celebrations stand out in particular: Every June, there is a big party on the Danube right next to the Nibelungen monument for one evening with fireworks, music and culinary delights.

The Donau.Auszeit.Wiese in Pöchlarn is a meeting zone, recreation area, exercise arena and place of enjoyment in a large recreation area right on the water. Located on the Danube Cycle Path, you can meet up at the new skating area, train on the calisthenics facility, climb over the large alluvial wood scaffolding or let off steam on the floor trampolines.
