On the plateau of the Eichberg at 380 m, south-east of Paudorf, there is a stand of sequoia trees that is unique in its size in Austria.Adalbert Dungel was forest warden of Göttweig Abbey from 1877 to 1886 and planted several seeds of "Wellingtonia gigantea" in the ground in 1880. Today, these "Adalbert Wellingtonias" tower high above the treetops of the surrounding forests as true giant sequoias.

Location
Danube Lower Austria, Krems-Land, municipality of Paudorf

Hike to the sequoia trees

The marked hiking trail "Göttweiger Wald-Erlebniswelt" leads to the sequoia trees on the Eichberg.
The starting point is at the parking lot, turning from the main road to Bruckweg (on the connecting road Paudorf towards Klein-Wien), which is already well marked coming from Göttweig. From this starting point of the adventure trail, the 2.1 km long route leads to the sequoia trees. This trail runs mostly through wooded terrain and is ideal for a walk or a short excursion with children.
