Above the roof of the Danube

25.5 kilometres and 1144 vertical metres in 2 days

Short but sweet: “Übers Dach der Donau” combines the wine landscape of the Wachau with the scenic nature park on the Jauerling, the highest mountain along the Danube – in just two hiking stages. More than 700 metres in altitude separate the banks of the Danube from the summit area. The route climbs steadily, but without any hazardous passages.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival
Individual journey to Spitz, overnight stay incl. breakfast in Spitz.

Day 2: Stage Spitz – Mühldorf (World Heritage Trail, Stage 4)
Trail length 11.2 km – hiking time 4h
The highest and steepest wine terraces in the Wachau, sparse oak and beech forests and magnificent views of the Danube lie along this somewhat challenging stage.
Overnight stay incl. breakfast in Mühldorf.

Day 3: Stage Mühldorf - Spitz – journey home (Jauerling-Runde 07)
Trail length 14.3 km – Walking time 5h
The magnificent landscape in the Jauerling Nature Park and some truly unparalleled spectacles characterise this stage: the highest point of the World Heritage Trail, the highest vineyard in Lower Austria and so much more...
