Austria's largest apricot-growing community, the municipality of Rossatz-Arnsdorf, lies on the southern bank of the Danube in the heart of the Wachau. Not only wine characterizes this landscape. After centuries of cultivation, the Wachau apricot is a popular crop. With the Marillenmeile, the apricot growers try to bring the subject closer to the hikers. It is divided into an eastern part (Rührsdorf-Rossatzbach) and a western part (St. Johann-Bacharnsdorf).

    Author’s recommendation

The wine-growing villages of Rossatz and Rossatzbach are known for their Heurigen establishments. It is worth taking a break.

    Roadbook

The tour starts in the center of Rossatz opposite the church square in Wegscheid at Mettenerplatz. We head east and first walk past houses, then along vineyards to the water castle and the brick kiln. Here we turn left and walk towards the Danube to Rossatzbach. One of the open Heurigen establishments invites you to take a break. Refreshed, we continue along the federal road to the edge of the village (curve). Here we turn left and walk towards the Danube. We now follow the towpath westwards and pass the campsite. At the ferry landing, we keep right and follow the towpath. This leads past apricot orchards and a small floodplain area. At the next cross street, we keep left towards the village. At the Rollfähreweg intersection, we keep right and walk parallel to the Danube with views of apricot orchards and floodplain. The next street we turn left and walk back through the village center to the marketplace in Rossatz. Here we keep right and return to the starting point of the tour.
