The best way to get to Emmersdorf is on the Wachau railway. You then cycle upstream on a flat section of the Danube cycle path with marvellous views. The first destination is the Weitenegg leisure centre, which has a lovely child- and family-friendly bathing beach! There is a buffet with toilets and changing rooms, showers, pedalo hire, an aqua jump, surfing facilities, a children's playground and a beach volleyball court. It is also possible to hire a boat and marvel at the landscape from the water.

Crossing the power station offers exciting views - perhaps a ship is just coming through the lock! - and also allows you to visit the sights of Melk on the opposite bank. The return journey takes you over the Danube bridge and back to the railway station in Emmersdorf.

    Author’s recommendation

Be sure to plan enough time for the Weitenegg leisure centre!  Children and family-friendly beach, buffet with toilets and changing rooms, pedalo hire, an aqua jump, surfing facilities and a beach volleyball court.

And if you still have some energy left in your calves, you can visit the Wachau donkey adventure in Rantenberg. The donkey driving licence is a highlight for young and old alike! There are also donkey carriage rides and donkey hikes. Information at www.eselabenteuer.com or call Anita Brunner on +43 (0)660 39 11 465.
