Beer has a history. The liquid gold was created over 6,000 years ago. A product of chance that has developed into a national drink. For the inn "Zum Goldenen Löwen" in Maria Taferl, the cultivation of local beer culture plays an essential role. Host and beer sommelier Andreas Frey enjoys immersing himself in the brewing process together with his guests. So it comes as no surprise that hops and malt can also be found in the food. The beer-crusted roast with dark beer juice and homemade bread dumplings confirm this. The Waldviertel dumplings with warm bacon and cabbage salad are given the desired touch with the tart beer juice. Guests can also taste the connection to the region in the desserts. The apricot dumplings are sweet and juicy at the same time. The Waldviertel poppy seed cake more than lives up to its reputation.

These delicacies are cooked by Margit Frey. The inn is therefore a genuine family business, run by the fourth generation and has been the first port of call for pilgrims since 1906. In addition to home-style cooking, guests are served cultural delights. An entire cabinet is dedicated to the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
