The Rath-Smetana inn, picturesquely situated on the Weidlingbach stream, is one of the traditional restaurants that helped establish the reputation of the Vienna Woods as a popular excursion region. For over 150 years, hikers have been enjoying a bite to eat here in Klosterneuburg. Even Empress Sisi appreciated the advantages of this memorable establishment, and a parlor in the inn was later named after her. Today, landlady Elvira Smetana ensures that the tastes of many are catered for in this family-run establishment. The crispy, golden-brown fried chicken sets the tone on the menu - and only takes a discreet back seat on Fridays. On this day, it is the homemade yeast dumplings that have long since achieved fame. The large ball of yeast dough delights guests from near and far.

Homemade syrup as a recipe for success

Gasthaus Rath-Smetana relies on regional partners for its meat and vegetables. The high quality standards are clearly visible - in the service and in the kitchen. The inn itself is close to nature. Elder and acacia trees bloom seasonally at the back of the garden. The neighboring Vienna Woods are also explored to integrate natural resources into everyday cooking. Landlady Elvira Smetana makes a syrup from the sea of flowers she picks, which is selectively added to the local pub cuisine. In addition to homemade aperitifs such as Hugolino, Akasecco or Nesselino, it is the lemonades with fresh mint, lime slices and squeezed lemon juice that are popular. The in-house syrup creations also characterize the taste here.
