While the water in the historic watermill at Markt 17 in Mühldorf in the district of Krems gently gurgles away, a few meters further on in the kitchen of the Weißes Rössl, the pace is different. Host and head chef Roman Siebenhandl is known for his brisk and professional approach. Every move is perfect. His homogeneous team of innkeepers is well-rehearsed. The service staff shine with their specialist knowledge and serve their guests authentic cuisine. Great value is placed on regionality, as well as on creative dishes. The interaction with local producers works remarkably well. Wachau apricots and Waldviertel poppies feature prominently on the menu.

Saffron, apricots and home-grown herbs

Herbs from the raised bed add a special touch to the dishes. Wachau saffron, pumpkin, chard and nasturtium are also home-grown. The specialties from Mühldorf's organic Wagyu beef and organic Turopolje pork are usually ordered. Among the tavern classics, the fried chicken with mixed salad and the Wachau beef goulash with rice, potatoes and fried egg are popular. The wine selection is also excellent and fits in with the landscape. An oasis of tranquillity awaits guests here directly on the World Heritage Trail. Fresh green tones and natural materials as far as the eye can see. The songbirds from the nearby forest provide the background music in the guest garden.
