The sporty market town of Würmla in the district of Tulln comprises a total of 15 villages - from Anzing to Waltendorf. Würmla belonged to the Roman Empire until 488. The Roman Imperial Road ran through the countryside here. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1075. Today, the Lower Austrian municipality is characterized by beautiful sights, several restaurants and accommodations as well as numerous sports and leisure activities.
Würmla: The most beautiful sights along the pilgrimage route
In addition to several wonderful walking and hiking trails, the Purkersdorf-Göttweig section of the Way of St. James also passes through Würmla. Impressive churches - such as the late Baroque long church of St. Ulrich - and many pretty chapels characterize the entire townscape. The representative Würmla Castle, built in 1894, now houses the municipal office. The mausoleum on Griffenberg (privately owned) and the Untermoos belfry are also considered special features.
Festivals, sport & tradition in Würmla
Clubs and traditions are particularly important in family-friendly Würmla. Throughout the year, great events such as the SV Würmla sports festival, farmers' markets and other events reliably attract visitors to the doorstep. In addition, the inns and wine taverns take care of the well-being of their young and old visitors. In the Waltendorf wine cellar lane, the Open Cellar Door Days take place at selected times - run by the local wine tavern families.
