SCHLOSS HOF - The adventure paradise for the whole family!
The baroque festival culture that once dominated life at Schloss Hof is still honored today. Throughout the year, the entire grounds become a stage for a wide variety of cultural events, cheerful children's parties and atmospheric feasts of culinary delights.
Built as a hunting and country residence for the general Prince Eugene of Savoy, Maria Theresa had the ensemble expanded into the largest country palace complex of the Habsburg monarchy. To this day, the complex is characterized by three main areas that make Schloss Hof a Baroque work of art:
General information:
THE CASTLE
The sumptuously furnished rooms of the palace provide an insight into imperial living dreams. While Maria Theresa and her son Emperor Joseph II indulged in classicism, Prince Eugene returned to the Belétage with the most modern exhibition technology and stylistic elements of his time.
THE GARDENS
The unique Baroque garden extends over seven terraces that gently slope down to the March, inviting visitors to stroll through its lush flower beds, fountains and ornate stone sculptures.
THE GUTSHOF
One of the largest baroque estates in Central Europe is the idyllic setting for numerous themed gardens such as the herb garden, snack garden or Weinviertel garden and a refuge for many rare domestic animal breeds of old Austrian origin. In the popular children's and family world, everything revolves around baking, handicrafts and children's theater at weekends and during the vacations. Two adventurous and exciting interactive tours allow guests of all ages to experience the estate in a playful way from the perspective of a stable boy or a maid.
SPECIAL EXHIBITION 2026: Playful symmetry - the baroque garden as a work of art
March 7 to November 2, 2026
Based on the gardens at Schloss Hof, the special exhibition deals with various aspects that characterized Baroque gardens of the nobility and the imperial family. Which design elements, such as sculptures or plants, were used? The special exhibition also focuses on technical innovations in the service of princely amusements in the gardens (water features, fireworks, etc.). The gardens were used for pleasure and recreation, but were also a means of demonstrating power and wealth - this is illustrated using examples.
For the first time, the special exhibition covers almost the entire Schloss Hof grounds - in the spirit of an overall Baroque experience.
