The hammer mill in Aggsbach-Dorf, the former tool forge of the Aggsbach Charterhouse, is a unique historical ensemble. It dates back to the 16th century and is still powered purely by water today. Three overshot water wheels drive the hammer, bellows and grinding machine. Expertly renovated in recent years, it is once again fully functional. Show forging for groups is also available on request.
The forge is a workshop and can only be visited as part of a guided tour or show forging!
Right next to the hammer forge in the Geozentrum Steinstadel is an excellent exhibition of Lower Austrian minerals. Minerals, fossils and rocks are invaluable witnesses to the history of the earth and tell us a lot about the development of the landscape. The "Steinreich Österreich" exhibition - housed in the "Geozentrum Steinstadel", a centuries-old, listed natural stone building - has set itself the task of collecting and preserving such geological documents for posterity.
