750 years of castle history - Marchegg Castle
The historically significant castle was once built as part of the town fortifications of Marchegg by King Ottokar II of Bohemia in 1268. Over the centuries, the castle was constantly remodeled and was given its baroque appearance by the noble family of the Pállfys from Erdöd, who used the castle as a hunting and summer residence. Directly adjacent to the grounds with its idyllic castle park are the former hunting grounds, which have been designated as the "Lower Marchauen" nature reserve for almost 50 years and are home to the largest colony of white storks nesting in trees in Central Europe.

Today it has defied wind and weather for more than 755 years. It has been lovingly renovated and made accessible for the 2022 provincial exhibition. It offers the whole family perfect conditions for an exciting journey through the history of the house from medieval castle to baroque palace and provides an insight into the diversity of the natural habitat of the lower Marchauen - for young and old.
