The Hotel-Restaurant zur Post has chosen a panoramic location to offer its guests something other than fresh and modern inn cuisine. Centrally located on Melk's main square, the restaurant garden offers an impressive view of the Benedictine Abbey of Melk. But this should not be a distraction: it is the roasted fried chicken, the tender pink roasted leg of lamb or the Rahmschmarrn that leave a special impression. The Ebner family has been running the inn for over 30 years. Today, it is the couple Margarete and Johannes Ebner who run the business and demonstrate their culinary vision. Regional specialties such as apricot liqueur, apricot roaster, nut schnapps and chocolates can be purchased in the inn's own store.
For decades, the Ebner family's inn has been regarded as the place at the gateway to the Wachau where classic Austrian cuisine is still served in unadulterated perfection. The ambience is impressive. Guests can choose between the "Donau", "Barock" or "Weinlust" rooms, each with impressive vaulted ceilings, the Post-Stüberl or the cozy arcaded courtyard. The oldest part of the house is home to the vinotheque, which reveals one or two (wine) treasures. The hotel's own ice cream parlor is popular with locals and day-trippers alike. The 28 rooms offer the highest level of comfort for vacationers.
