Description

This spectacular cycle tour from the banks of the Danube to the hills of the region is particularly suitable for ambitious cyclists due to the large differences in altitude.The Panorama-Schatz tour leads over approx. 44 km through the Nibelungengau and the 650 meters of altitude difference ensure constantly changing views of the valley that will delight your senses.

Route description The start is in Marbach and immediately leads with a steep climb up to Maria Taferl, where you are rewarded for the first time with a view of the Danube and the region. In Maria Taferl you should take some time for a visit to the famous Maria Taferl Basilica or for a refreshment at Freys Wirtshaus and a dessert at Cafe Maria Theresia.It continues to Artstetten, where one of the cultural treasures of the Nibelungengau, Artstetten Castle, is located. Through the hilly landscape it then goes to Leiben with the Leiben European Castle, which houses the Austrian Agricultural Museum.With wonderful views, the route continues over the Henzing back to the Danube shore. There, the bathing paradise in Weitenegg invites you to take a break before returning to Marbach via the Danube cycle path.
Parking There are plenty of parking spaces on the Danube shore in Marbach.
Getting there Marbach is accessible via the A1 West Motorway, exit Pöchlarn. Take the 1st exit at the roundabout at the exit, after about 1 km turn left towards the Danube bridge. Cross the bridge, then keep left on Wachauerstraße (B3) to Marbach.Coming from Krems or Grein via Wachauerstraße (B3) to Marbach.
Public transport Travel with ÖBB to the Pöchlarn train station - timetable inquiry. From the station you can take the bus to Marbach - timetable information.Or: with ÖBB to the Krummnussbaum train station and then a crossing on the Danube with the Hell ferry to Marbach.We recommend traveling by car, as public transport does not cover a seamless connection.
