Built in the 13th century as the reading farm of the Bavarian monastery of Niederaltaich, the exemplary renovated Mauritiushof is located on the quiet church square of Spitz. The FJ Gritsch Mauritiushof winery is considered one of the most traditional in the Wachau. The historic property - courtyard with arcades, vaulted cellar - came into the possession of the Gritsch family in 1799. Franz-Josef is now running the business in the 7th family generation. The winemaker is one of the best in the region: his "kalmuck" wines® combine the tradition and modernity of the Wachau, and his Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners from the top vineyards Dürnsteiner Burg, Singerriedel, 1000-Eimerberg and Loibenberg are always highly rated by critics.
You have the choice between our holiday flats in the historic Mauritiushof "Kirchgarten", "Loibenberg", "Steinporz" and "1000-Eimerberg" or our modern "kalmuck-Loft" in the kalmuck cellar. The flats "Loibenberg" and "Steinporz" have been extended by terraces with a dreamy view of the Danube and the surrounding vineyards.
All three flats, "Singerriedel Loggia", "Singerriedel 1" and "Singerriedel 2" offer the most breathtaking view of one of Austria's most famous vineyards, the Ried Singerriedel. Enjoy the wonderful panorama, with a glass of our wine in your hand!
