The Starhembergwarte is an approximately ten-metre-high viewing platform on the summit of the 584-metre-high Schlossberg above the Dürnstein ruins. The lookout was built as a wooden structure by the Krems-Stein section of the Austrian Tourist Club, which was founded in 1881/82, and was officially opened on July 16, 1882.

After the wooden structure was already damaged ten years later, a stone building was erected according to the plans of the Krems town architect Josef Utz jun. and opened on August 15, 1895. After the First World War, the lookout was badly damaged and neglected. It was not restored until 1925. The last general renovation was carried out in 1987/88. Inside the stone building there is a metal spiral staircase that leads up to the viewing terrace. There is a wonderful panoramic view over pine forests into the Danube valley.

Access: By car from Krems-Stein via Egelsee in the direction of Weinzierl am Walde (approx. 3 km from Egelsee) you can reach the Fesslhütte directly via a goods road. From here it is about 10 minutes on foot to the Starhembergwarte
