The school, shopping and industrial town of Stockerau - the "gateway to the Weinviertel" - is the largest town in the Weinviertel, flanked to the south by the Danube floodplains and to the north by gently rolling farmland.

The steeple of the late Baroque parish church of St. Stephan, the highest church tower in Lower Austria at 88 meters, can be seen from afar. The Stockerau Festival has been held on the square in front of the parish church in summer since 1964. Stockerau's numerous buildings worth seeing include the town hall, the Belvedere Palace and several baroque town houses.

In addition to the recreation center (with outdoor pool, indoor pool and artificial ice rink) and the "Alte Au" sports center, the Stockerauer Au, which can be explored on numerous hiking and biking trails as well as by canoe, is one of the town's most beautiful recreational opportunities.
