  • Rohrau Castle
  • Haydn's birthplace

The market town of Rohrau in the district of Bruck an der Leitha is located around 40 kilometers south-east of Vienna. The birthplace of the two world-famous composers Joseph and Michael Haydn offers unspoiled nature, cultural excursion destinations and fine dining.

Rohrau: birthplace of Joseph Haydn
The birthplace of the composers Joseph (born 1732) and Michael Haydn (born 1737) houses the Haydn Museum as a memorial: visitors can look forward to an extensive permanent exhibition in the property, which was carefully renovated in 2017. The courtyard with its arcade and a new concert hall provide the setting for concerts. As part of the Haydn Region of Lower Austria, classical music concerts and art talks are held in and around Rohrau throughout the year.

Worth seeing: art & culture in Rohrau
The magnificent Rohrau Castle was built back in 1524 - and was baroqueized at the end of the 18th century. Today, furniture, decorative arts and the largest private collection of Spanish and Neopolitan painters of the 17th and 18th centuries are exhibited here. Also worth seeing in Rohrau is the parish church of St. Vitus - with Haydn's organ and the tomb of Haydn's parents - as well as listed buildings throughout the town: such as the old pillory, a baroque chapel and a former inn from the late 18th century.
