Hainburg an der Donau, Austria's easternmost town, is nestled in a charming landscape between the cosmopolitan cities of Vienna and Bratislava. As a picturesque gateway to the past, the town boasts impressive medieval fortifications, narrow alleyways and many other historic buildings from different eras. Against this atmospheric backdrop, city tours are held every weekend in summer and once a year a large medieval festival invites visitors to travel back in time. To the webcam
Hainburg: Donau-Auen National Park
Today's hiking paradise, the Donau-Auen National Park, emerged from the successful occupation of the Hainburger Au in 1984. On October 27, 1996, the contract for the national park was signed on the Schlossberg, which is intended to protect the uniqueness of this type of landscape in Central Europe. The water forest with its richly structured stretch of river between Vienna and Hainburg is the last of its kind.
Other sights in Hainburg
Impressive churches are just as eye-catching as the Anger - the village center from the 11th century with the former cemetery chapel, a Gothic light column and the pillory. The castle ruins on the Schlossberg and one of the oldest town fortifications in Europe with three monumental gates and numerous towers from the 13th and 14th centuries - characterize the exciting image of Hainburg.
Sport on the Danube: swimming, golfing, hiking
A short break in Hainburg is ideal for hiking - e.g. directly to the summit of the Braunsberg. Cyclists can explore the town on the short and easy stage 9 of the Danube cycle path. The Bergbad Hainburg offers bathing fun, slides, diving platforms and mini golf as well as a magnificent view of the national park. And the spacious Hainburg Golf Club has been inviting guests to enjoy a perfect drive since 1977.
