Austria's largest apricot-growing community, the municipality of Rossatz-Arnsdorf, lies on the southern bank of the Danube in the heart of the Wachau. It is not only wine that characterizes this landscape. After centuries of cultivation, the Wachau apricot is a popular crop. The apricot farmers try to bring the topic closer to hikers with the apricot mile, which is divided into a western (St. Johann-Bacharnsdorf) and an eastern part (Rührsdorf-Rossatzbach).
Just before the Pöchlinger Winery, we start our hike along the federal highway and head south. The trail takes us past vineyards and apricot orchards until we finally reach the Porzen lookout point. From here, you have a magnificent view of the Danube Valley. We then continue uphill until we reach a fork in the road. Here, we leave the road and follow the old Roman road into the Kupfertal Valley. At a hairpin turn, we turn toward the Danube and walk past the Türkentor and through a fairytale-like forest toward Bacharnsdorf. Once there, we hike back to Mitterarnsdorf along the Treppelweg.

Take the A1 Westautobahn to Melk, take the Wachau exit, stay on the right bank of the Danube, and continue toward Mautern.
Take the S 33 from St. Pölten via Mautern, then take the B 33 or S 5 to Krems—right bank of the Danube at Mautern—B 33.
