Description

This connectingDUR takes us via Neuhofen to Mauer. This village owes its fame to its famous church with its wooden carved altar. From here we hike on to the Roman bridge and over the high road to Gerolding. This connecting DUR can be ideally combined with DUR 5, DUR 6 and DUR V1.

Equipment Sturdy hiking shoes, rain protection, sufficient drinks and provisions, as well as a Dunkelsteinerwald hiking map.ATTENTION: There are NO refreshment options along the route.
Route description The starting point of this connecting DUR is found at the location sign "Neuhofen" (GPS coordinates: N 48° 12.851 | E 15° 25.124). From here we walk a few steps north before the path leads us uphill between the houses. Only at Reiserhof do we turn left and hike downhill until we reach a resting area where we turn right. Here the red roof of the pilgrimage church "Maria am grünen Anger" with its famous carved altar already shines towards us. We follow the path back into a forest area that leads us to the church. From the meadow behind the church, it is only a few meters to the carved altar and visitor center. Back on the hiking path, we walk along the forest edge and enter another forested area, which takes us over the Mauerbach creek to the road near Pfaffing. We turn left and hike to the bus stop where we keep right and enter the village. Now we go straight ahead until we reach the Roman Bridge junction. We are only a few meters away from the Roman Bridge, and a detour there is definitely worthwhile. We can briefly rest on a cozy bench before returning to the Roman Bridge junction and continuing our way. Upon reaching the next rise at the state road, a panoramic view is worth the stop. In the far distance, we can make out Schallaburg. Our path continues to the right and then immediately left again. From the Hochstraße, where we currently are, we again have a great distant view. After the bench by the vacationer’s cross, we turn right and see Gerolding for the first time. From here we keep going straight until, passing by Lerchfeld and Nölling, we reach our destination Gerolding.
Parking Free parking is available in the village square in Gerolding and in Neuhofen.
Getting there Gerolding: A1 exit Loodorf, continue to Loosdorf and on L106 towards Aggsbach-Dorf. Turn left in Umbach onto L5355 towards Gerolding.
Public transport Gerolding: Postbus L1536 to Loosdorf
