Description

Our DUR takes us from the Aggsbach Charterhouse to the Calvary. After a steep climb, we are rewarded with a beautiful view over Aggsbach village and can rest at the summit. From here, the trail leads via Maierhöfen to Wolfenreith and on to the lime kiln in Heitzing. After visiting the lovingly renovated lime kiln, we continue via the Hohe Kreuz to Gerolding.

Equipment Sturdy hiking shoes, rain protection, sufficient drinks and food, as well as a Dunkelsteinerwald hiking map.
Route description From the Charterhouse Aggsbach this DUR leads left up the state road to the first Stations of the Cross of the Calvary Hill. Here, we turn left and follow the Stations of the Cross. At the top, a bench invites you to rest and we can enjoy a beautiful view of Aggsbach-Dorf. Our path then leads right uphill until we reach a forest road that takes us to a bridge. After this bridge, we keep to the right and follow the path until we reach the state road near Maierhöfen. We walk right along the road and turn right at the next opportunity. Then we immediately keep right again, walk past the house and reach a forest path along the fields. At the next two junctions, we keep left until we arrive at Grubhof. After the last house, the path leads right over a meadow directly into the Siedelgraben, which we follow to the state road in Wolfstein. Here we turn left and shortly after right again. We reach a fork where we keep left and walk through the Rain valley to another fork. From here we follow the signs to the lime kiln, where we can take a break and learn about the lime burners' trades (back side). Past the lime kiln, we reach a state road, where we turn left and immediately right at the forest. The path leads us to the High Cross, from where we can enjoy a magnificent view of the Alpine foothills. At the High Cross, we turn right and then keep right again until we reach the Hirschenwirt guesthouse. From there it is only a few meters to the village square in Gerolding.
Parking Free parking is available at the Charterhouse in Aggsbach-Dorf and at the village square in Gerolding.
Getting there Aggsbach-Dorf: A1 exit Melk, continue on B33 to Aggsbach-DorfGerolding: A1 exit Loodorf, continue to Loosdorf and on L106 towards Aggsbach-Dorf. Turn left at Umbach onto L5355 to Gerolding.
Public transport Aggsbach-Dorf: Regional bus line 720 to and from Krems or Melk
