From Karlstetten we hike via settlements to the forest nature trail and continue along densely wooded paths towards Oberbergern.
Sturdy hiking boots, rain gear, plenty of drinks and snacks, and a Dunkelsteinerwald hiking map.
PLEASE NOTE: There are NO places to stop for refreshments along the route.
We begin our DUR hike at Schlossplatz in Karlstetten and walk through a residential area until we enter the forest. Following the forest nature trail, we reach Doppel, from where we follow densely forested paths to the Silberne Birn intersection. From here, it’s just a few meters to the Silberne Birn and the Salzburgstein. This spot in the middle of the forest invites you to linger. The absolute silence is almost eerie. Back on the DUR, we continue to the left, passing numerous anthills, and finally reach the “Zur Toten Frau” chapel. From here, we hike downhill to Oberbergern, where we turn left in the village before the stream bridge and reach the Dorfstadel.
Free parking is available at Schlossplatz in Karlstetten and at the Dorfstadel in Oberbergern.
