    Author’s recommendation

For easy and convenient planning of tours, the Wachau-Nibelungengau-Kremstal App is recommended. Simply download it for Android or iPhone. You can obtain the Nibelungengau hiking map from the Danube Lower Austria Tourism GmbH or the Nibelungengau municipalities.

    Sights in the Nibelungengau:
Donaukraftwerk Ybbs-Persenbeug, Peace Museum Erlauf, Oskar Kokoschka Center Pöchlarn, European Castle Leiben, Artstetten Castle, Basilica Maria Taferl

Events and happenings in the Nibelungengau region and surroundings can be found here.
Tip: Combine your hiking holiday with the Sonnwendfeier "Fire Magic in the Nibelungengau" in June. One experience - two possibilities: Celebrate on the banks of the Danube in one of the Nibelungengau municipalities or on board a ship. More information at www.sonnenwende.at.
Descriptions of the routes including GPS tracks for download can be found at www.nibelungengau.at

Pöchlarn is a historic town on the Danube – Roman "Arelape" – the Bechelaren of the Nibelungenlied and birthplace of Oskar Kokoschka. Worth visiting is the Oskar Kokoschka Documentation Center with a special exhibition from May to October, as well as the Welser Tower City Museum with Roman finds or the Nibelungen Monument. Furthermore, there are numerous leisure activities in and around the community. Enjoy a day at the town swimming pool or hike to Maria Taferl, Maria Steinbründl or to Artstetten Castle. The location is also ideal for cycling trips to the Wachau, Schallaburg, Melk Abbey or the Waldviertel.

Further information about the community can be found at http://www.poechlarn.at.
