  • Dürnstein

Welcome to one of the most romantic places along the Danube: Dürnstein has long attracted guests from all over the world to discover it - with a medieval flair that has been preserved to this day, numerous sights and first-class hospitality.

Dürnstein: popular Excursion destinations for young and old

The abbey with its striking blue church tower and magnificent baroque church, which invites visitors to "discover the precious" with its permanent exhibition, and the Dürnstein ruins - once the castle of the Kuenringer dynasty - are particularly worth a visit. The English king Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned here from 1192 to 1193. The famous ruins are not only freely accessible all year round, but also offer magnificent panoramic views far across the Danube valley. In addition to slow train rides through the vineyards, the most beautiful hiking trails invite you to explore the ancient rock formations.

Vacation feeling against a historic backdrop in Dürnstein

As you stroll through the alleyways of Dürnstein's old town, countless small stores and boutiques entice you to look and marvel. Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements form an exciting backdrop of picturesque town houses and sights such as Prangerplatz and Kunigunden Church.

Toque-awarded restaurants & organic baths

First-class gourmet restaurants, down-to-earth inns and family-friendly taverns serve guests delicacies from the kitchen and cellar. Concerts ranging from classical to folk music and seasonal markets take place throughout the year. A hike through the Kremser Tor to the Dürnsteiner Rieden and as far as Loiben is particularly beautiful. In the summer months, the spacious Kuenringerbad Dürnstein is a great tip for the whole family: Lower Austria's only fully biological swimming pool is surrounded by impressive rocky backdrops - and is a true natural gem.
