The charming Mayer Resch winery - Der Winzer am Rebentor - is located in the middle of the picturesque Steiner wine cellar lane in Krems-Stein. As you stroll through Stein, you can already make out the Rebentor through the narrow alleyways and past the historic walls - and opposite it is the heart of the winery.
History & philosophy
The family business was founded in 1918 by Georg Mayer. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation, Barbara Resch (now Beer) and Johannes Beer. Mayer Resch has been combining traditional craftsmanship with modern cellar technology for decades. The grapes - such as Grüne Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Rivaner, Muskateller and Zweigelt - are processed as gently as possible and the wines are stored in a historic cellar whose earth temperature provides natural cooling.
Ambience & experience
The wine tavern of the winery impresses with its rustic yet inviting atmosphere. Whether in the old press house under the tree press, in the cozy Winzerstüberl or in the atmospheric vaulted cellar - you will always find a suitable place to enjoy your meal. Especially in summer, the guest garden with a view of Göttweig Abbey blossoms as a green refuge in the middle of the old town of Stein. Families are well catered for - a small children's play area with sandpit, swings and a wine barrel house makes a visit exciting for the little ones too.
A special detail: There is a drinks machine in the guest garden (6:00 to 24:00), which provides the entire range of wines and sparkling wines as well as spritzers (e.g. Hugo) and non-alcoholic drinks. This means that visitors can also enjoy themselves outside Heurigen opening hours.
Wine sales directly from the farm, wine tastings, cellar tours and vineyard walks are possible all year round (by appointment). The wine tavern opens at set times.
Awards & enjoyment
Mayer Resch is one of the top wine taverns in Lower Austria. Experts particularly appreciate the quality of the wines typical of the region - with a strong connection to the soil and terroir.
