Mautern lies on the right bank of the Danube at the entrance to the Wachau, opposite Krems. The pretty little town is also considered to be one of the oldest Roman settlements. Evidence of this is provided by finds from the former legionary camp "Favianis" (1st century AD), which can be admired today in the Roman Museum. The cultural trail "Favianis Mutaren" Mautern leads through the old town and provides an insight into the Roman and medieval history of the town. Worth seeing are the Roman tower, the horseshoe tower, the Roman road and the baroque parish church with Stations of the Cross by M.J. Schmidt. Inviting cycling and hiking trails lead through vineyards or along the Danube. You will find freely accessible charging stations directly at the town hall or at the large parking lot in front of the Römerhalle.
