Description

The Roman bridges in the Schwarzau valley near Artstetten-Pöbring are a small but charming testimony to the old transport routes that lead through the landscape of the Nibelungengau. They are located along the romantic Schwarzau, a side valley of the Danube valley, and are part of the old "old post road" - a historic connecting route between the villages, which once had important transport and trade functions and has several stone arches, which is why this place is known today as the Roman bridges.

Surrounded by dense forest and nestled in a gently undulating landscape, these stone bridges are not only an attractive stopping point for hikers, but also a visible relic of times gone by. Today, the paths through the Schwarzau valley are part of longer circular and panoramic hikes that lead from Artstetten via Pöbring and through the valley - and always offer wonderful views of the Danube valley and the foothills of the Alps. Thanks to the seclusion and unspoiled nature, visitors can see a rich variety of flora and fauna.

Although the name "Roman bridges" suggests a Roman origin, these bridges are primarily significant as historical stone paths on the postal and trade route, which have been built and used over the centuries.

The Schwarzautal hike is one of the treasures of the Nibelungengau. All other treasures full of enjoyment, variety and the best views can be discovered at www.nibelungengau.at!
