The fascinating cultural history of the Wachau is outlined on 12 information panels.
Starting with prehistory (Venus of Willendorf), the Roman Empire (Favianis = today's Mautern, St. Severin), the Bavarian settlement from the 8th century onwards, King Richard the Lionheart (Dürnstein), castles and ruins (Aggstein, Hinterhaus), the history is rolled up.
From the Renaissance (Teisenhoferhof in Weißenkirchen, Maria Laach) through the Baroque period (Göttweig, Melk, Dürnstein) to Napoleon and the French (Laiben), the story continues to the elevation to World Cultural Heritage status in 2000. Traditional viticulture, the Danube and the Wachau festivals also find their place on the picture panels.
