Der Sage nach wollte der Teufel wegen diesem Pilgerziel die Donau stauen, um die Kirche unter Wasser zu setzen. Durch einen Rest dieses „missglückten“ Stauversuchs fährt heute die Wachaubahn – der Tunnel durch die sogenannte „Teufelsmauer“ ist der kürzeste Eisenbahntunnel Österreichs.
