The market town of Krummnußbaum in the district of Melk lies on the right bank of the Danube - opposite Marbach and Maria Taferl. Those seeking relaxation and hikers in particular love the idyllic, slightly hilly landscape. Well-kept inns and family-friendly guesthouses invite you to enjoy an uncomplicated excursion or short break. The church of St. Nicholas and the town hall are listed buildings. The modern parish church of the Immaculate Conception is also worth a visit.

Incidentally, the town's name is derived from the distinctive crooked walnut trees that used to stand here on the Danube.

Krummnußbaum: wonderful hiking by the water

The most beautiful hiking trails promise enjoyable moments along the Danube - such as several Tut-Gut hiking trails and the Nibelungengau long-distance hiking trail (from Krummnussbaum to Persenbeug or from Pöchlarn to Krummnussbaum). The "Kleine Dorfrunde", which takes around 30 minutes, is perfect for families with small children: it leads easily and flatly through the village - past Gasthof Nusserl and a playground as well as along the Danube.

Ge-Nuss in Krummnußbaum

Exercise and sport are very important: with a tennis court, soccer pitch, fun court, shooting and skating facilities. Visitors can also enjoy fishing opportunities and extensive cycle paths as well as a boat harbor and bathing jetty on the Danube. A great event highlight for the whole family is the "Nussfest", where everything revolves around the walnut: since 2002, it has always taken place on the first weekend in October - with a varied program for all generations, from music and folk dancing to the nut princess election. The "nusseum" Krummnußbaum is open to visitors all year round by appointment. It includes a store with numerous nut-related products that can be purchased and a nutcracker exhibition with over 2,500 exhibits from all over the world.
