Austria's largest country palace complex – where the Baroque Age comes alive. This magnificent palace features the originally furnished apartments of Prince Eugene of Savoy and Empress Maria Theresia. Behind it is an artistically designed baroque garden that extends over seven man-made terraces and an idyllic manor with heritage species of domesticated animals from old Austria. Together these elements create an ensemble that uniquely weds imperial splendor with rural idyll. Youngsters are also sure to enjoy the outing thanks to horse-drawn wagon rides, an adventure playground and a petting zoo plus numerous festivals and special events.

Contemporaries back in the 18th century admired the baroque garden that Prince Eugene had installed even more than the palace. With the help of historical plans and archeological landscape studies, the terraced garden has largely been restored to its original glory.

Garden Delights - "The Prince's Garden"
Prince Eugene was a significant patron of the arts and a great lover of precious and rare plants. These facets of his personality become obvious on a tour through the magnificent baroque garden. A visitor path with commentary guides guests through the terraced garden past artistically rendered broderie beds, exquisite sculptures and imposing fountains. It ends in one of the most significant orangeries in Europe complete with its old gardener quarters.

Garden tour (weather permitting) daily at 3:00 p.m.

SPECIAL EXHIBITION PART 2, 15.03.-17.11.2019
In the years 2018 to 2020 Schloss Hof and Schloss Niederweiden are organising three special interactive exhibitions to focus on the question: why do we eat the way we do?

Schloss Niederweiden

Schloss Niederweiden is a real insider’s tip. It radiates a very special fascination, with the buoyant joie de vivre of a French château de plaisir and the charm of a stately Upper Italian villa. On one hand we find delicate Chinese wall paintings in the Banqueting Hall and on the other bump into the Baroque creature comforts of a hearty dish of game in the adjacent game kitchen. In 2017 the hunting lodge is showing the special exhibition “300 Years of Maria Theresia – Modernisation and Reforms”, with an attractive supplementary programme. www.mariatheresia2017.at
