According to legend, the devil wanted to dam up the Danube because of this pilgrimage destination in order to flood the church. Today, the Wachau Railway runs through a remnant of this "failed" damming attempt - the tunnel through the so-called "Devil's Wall" is the shortest railroad tunnel in Austria.
